Japanese CD pressings explained
Japanese CDs command a premium for good reasons — and a few myths. Here's what actually adds value.
The OBI strip
The OBI is the printed paper strip wrapped around the case spine. It carries the Japanese title, catalogue number and price, and it's the single biggest factor in a Japanese CD's value. A copy without its OBI is typically worth a fraction of one with it.
Every Japanese pressing we list states clearly whether the OBI is present and what condition it's in.
Bonus tracks and mastering
Japanese editions frequently add bonus tracks not available on UK or US pressings, and lyric inserts with translations. Mastering can differ too — sometimes noticeably, sometimes marketing.
Reading the catalogue number
Japanese catalogue numbers (VJCP-68326, TOCP-, SRCS- and so on) identify the label and the specific pressing. We put the catalogue number in the page URL and the title so you can confirm you're buying the exact release you want.
